SIRAJGANJ, Feb 20: Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has said, the government is making maximum efforts to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the country during the upcoming Ramadan.
Speaking to journalists at his Sirajganj residence on Friday afternoon, Tuku admitted that outstanding dues and the need for fuel imports pose a major challenge. "Even then, we are trying our best to manage the situation and deliver benefits to the people," he said.
On his first two-day visit to his constituency after becoming minister, Tuku was accorded a guard of honour by district police upon arrival.
He noted that electricity demand peaks after Ramadan with the irrigation season and summer.
"The government will make every effort with existing capacity to keep supply normal so that agriculture production and public life are not disrupted," he said, adding that minor technical faults may occur but overall supply is expected to remain stable.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Md Aminul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police Hafizur Rahman, and district BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bacchu, along with local leaders, welcomed the minister with flowers.
