BAGHA, RAJSHAHI, Feb 22: A tragic road accident on Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of five members of the same family from Dadpur Char in Chokrajapur Union, located on an island in the Padma River.

The victims were identified as Ameena Begum and Komela Begum, wives of Khirzar Molla, along with their son-in-law Zakaria Hossain, nephew Ashraful Islam Nur, and his wife Shahanaz Khatun Sefali. They were travelling together when the accident occurred.

According to reports, the family was travelling in a CNG auto-rickshaw from Bottoil Kaburhat in Kushtia via the bypass towards Trimohani. At around 2 pm, a gas-cylinder-loaded truck coming from the opposite direction lost control and collided head-on with the CNG, causing it to crumple. Ameena Begum, Komela Begum, and Zakaria Hossain died on the spot, while Ashraful Islam Nur and Shahanaz Khatun Sefali succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The family had recently moved to Khajangor in Kushtia due to river erosion in the Padma River. They were temporarily residing in Dadpur Char when the fatal accident occurred, according to local village doctor Jahurul Islam.

Kushtia Highway Police Inspector Joydeb confirmed that three people died at the spot and two others at the hospital. Both the truck and the CNG have been seized, while the truck driver remains at large.
The victims were buried in Khajangor following the accident.
