25 held after AL, Chatra Dal clash in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, June 8:  Police have arrested 25 more leaders and activists of Jubo League and the banned Chhatra League following clashes between Awami League and Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal activists and a protest march in Noakhali Sadar Upazila.

The arrests were made during overnight drives from Saturday night to Sunday morning in different areas of the upazila, police said.

Confirming the matter on Sunday morning, Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) T M Mosharraf  Hossain said legal action was being taken against the arrestees.

Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station (PS) Mohammad Touhidul Islam has been attached to the district police lines. Police said the move was part of a routine administrative transfer.

Under the same order, the OC of Sonagazi PS in Feni Md Kamrul Islam has been made the new OC of Sudharam Model PS.

In addition, Sudharam PS Inspector (Operations) Sriram Bhattacharya has been transferred to Hatiya Police Station as investigation officer, while Hatiya Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Idrisur Rahman has been posted to Sudharam Police Station in the same role.

SP Mosharraf Hossain said a total of 49 Jubo League and banned Chhatra League activists had been arrested over the past two days in separate drives across the district.

He also said that the transfer of OC Touhidul Islam was a regular administrative decision.

"The OC of Sudharam Model PS has been transferred to the police lines as part of routine administrative reshuffling," he said.
