RAJSHAHI, June 8: Twenty-two-year-old Barsha  Khatun is living through unbearable grief and uncertainty after losing her husband in a road accident in front of her eyes and suffering injuries herself.

With visible injury marks on her body and a deep sense of shock, she is now staying at her father’s house in Yogipara Village under Baghmara Upazila of Rajshahi, caring for her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter while struggling to cope with her physical and emotional trauma.

Just two days before Eid, Barsha ’s husband, Nazmul Hossain,26, was killed in a horrific road crash on May 26 morning while travelling by motorcycle with his wife and daughter. The family was heading from Nagpara Village to a relative’s house when the accident occurred on the Bhabaniganj"Atrai road near Nagpara crossing.

Police and locals said the motorcycle collided head-on with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction. Nazmul, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained severe injuries to his face and chest and died on the spot.

Barsha, who was seated with her child, tried desperately to protect her daughter during the impact and suffered serious injuries herself. Their daughter, Afsa Khatun, narrowly escaped major injury after being thrown from her mother’s lap.

After initial treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Barsha  was discharged and later moved to her father’s home for recovery. However, she remains physically weak and emotionally devastated.

Nazmul was the son of Abdul Rashid of Nagpara Village and was the main breadwinner of the family. His sudden death has left the family in deep financial crisis. His mother, Hasina Begum, expressed unbearable grief, saying she cannot imagine life without her son.

Nazmul’s father said he is now worried about the treatment and future of his daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

Neighbours said the tragedy just before Eid has left the entire area in shock, while Barsha ’s condition highlights the growing toll of road accidents on families.
