Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan and BNP leader Ishraque Hossain both have expressed their intention to contest the upcoming mayoral election of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), setting the stage for a competitive race.
According to NCP sources, Asif Mahmud is likely to run for the mayoral post of DSCC from Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP). Sources within the party said he is being considered as a potential candidate. Close associates of Asif Mahmud also confirmed that he plans to contest the DSCC mayoral election under NCP banner.
Meanwhile, Ishraque Hossain has announced his intention to run for the same post.
He shared the decision through a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday afternoon, writing that he would contest the city election from Dhaka South, Inshallah.
Ishraque Hossain was elected as a Member of Parliament from Dhaka-6 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), contesting with the party’s electoral symbol, Dhaner Shish.
With both leaders preparing to enter the race, the upcoming DSCC mayoral election is expected to draw significant political attention.
