Mother, daughter die in Debiganj road mishap

DEBIGANJ, PANCHAGARH, Feb 24: A mother and her daughter have died after being hit by a Dhaka-bound passenger bus in Debiganj Upazila of Panchagarh.
The deceased were identified as Momata Begum, 37, and her daughter Muntaha, 7. In the same incident, another daughter, Mubashshira, was critically injured. Momata was the wife of Md. Azad of the Patwari Para area in the municipal town.
The accident occurred at around 8 pm on Monday in the Newbandar Abdulpur area of Debiganj Sadar Union.
Eyewitnesses reported that a bus from Nader Paribahan was heading towards Dhaka with passengers from Debiganj. At the time, Momata Begum and her twin daughters, Muntaha and Mubashshira, were returning on a motorcycle from her father's house in the Sonahar union of the upazila. The motorcycle was being driven by Momata's nephew, Monirul Islam. When they reached the Newbandar Abdulpur area, the Dhaka-bound bus struck the motorcycle.
Momata Begum and one of her daughters were critically injured at the scene. Locals rescued them and took them to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead. The injured Mubashshira and the motorcycle driver were given first aid.
After the incident, locals trapped the bus in the Sonahar Bazar area and handed it over to the police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debiganj Police Station, KM Maniruzzaman, confirmed the truth of the incident and stated that the bus and its driver have been taken into police custody. Preparations are underway to file a case regarding the incident.
