Dhaka University (DU) students staged another protest outside Shahbagh Police Station, demanding action against police officers who allegedly assaulted a student during an anti-narcotics drive at Suhrawardi Udyan.

On Thursday afternoon, students gathered at Raju Sculpture at 1:30pm before marching to the police station. They were protesting the assault on Naeem Uddin, a 29th batch student of the Anthropology Department, which occurred on February 23 during a police operation at Suhrawardi Udyan.

Students had previously held a protest assembly outside Shahbagh Police Station on 24 February following the incident. At that time, they demanded a formal apology from police, formation of an impartial investigation committee, and appropriate action against the assaulting officers including DC Masud.

Protesters had given authorities a 24-hour deadline to meet their demands. However, students said no steps were taken even after the deadline passed.

According to the earlier announcement, if demands were not met within 24 hours, new programmes would be declared. Students said they would submit a memorandum to the Home Ministry after the protest march.

The repeated demonstration highlights growing tensions between university students and law enforcement over alleged police misconduct during operations near campus areas.
