Students of Islamic University, Bangladesh in Kushtia staged protests on Thursday following the brutal killing of Assistant Professor Asma Sadia Runa of the Social Welfare Department.

As the autopsy was completed and a case formally lodged, grieving students and colleagues demanded swift justice and a thorough investigation into the shocking murder.

The autopsy was conducted at Kushtia General Hospital around 10am. Resident Medical Officer Dr Hossain Imam said the examination revealed a deep wound on the lower right side of her neck inflicted by a sharp weapon.

"A major blood vessel was severed, leading to excessive bleeding and death," he said, adding that doctors also found around 20 additional wounds on her chest, back, abdomen and hands.

Earlier in the day, thousands gathered to bid farewell to the slain teacher.
