Former interim government adviser and National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has claimed he and his family members together hold about Tk 1.5 million in nine bank accounts.
He alleged that attempts are under way to defame him after his party nominates him as candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation election, he said.
Speaking at a press conference at the party's Bangla Motor office in the capital on Wednesday night, he disclosed details of the accounts and accused certain quarters of engaging in "character assassination" by circulating confidential financial information.
"I was very surprised that bank account information of 56 people was requested and message sent to banks requesting the BFIU that it makes the confidential information public. As a citizen I think it is a violation of a citizen's privacy.
