Khaleda Zia to be honoured with 'Best Indomitable Woman in Advancing Democracy' award

Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia will be awarded the 'Best Indomitable Woman in Advancing Democracy' title as part of this year’s International Women’s Day observances.

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs announced that the honour will be conferred under the Indomitable Women Award programme for 2026. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 8 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

Khaleda Zia is set to receive the recognition for what the ministry described as her steadfast leadership in the struggle to restore democracy and her significant contributions to safeguarding the country’s democratic process.

Alongside her, five other women will be recognised as Best Indomitable Women across different categories.

Nurun Nahar Akter will be honoured for achievements in economic empowerment. Most. Bobita Khatun is set to receive the award in the field of education and employment, while Nurbanu Kabir will be recognised in the successful mother category.

Most. Shamla Begum will be awarded for overcoming violence related trauma and rebuilding her life with success. Most. Afroza Yasmin will be honoured for her notable work in social development.

The annual initiative marks International Women’s Day by celebrating women who have demonstrated resilience, leadership and contributions to society in various spheres.
