A police official has been closed on charges of negligence in the case of theft of a pistol, magazine and bullets while on duty in Narayanganj city.
ASI Lutfor Rahman has been transferred from Shitalakshya police outpost and attached to the district police lines, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) of the district police, Tarek Al Mehedi, confirmed on Wednesday night.
A case has been filed after arresting one of the muggers and recovering the stolen pistol, magazine and bullets, but the police have not yet been able to arrest the other two accused involved in the mugging.
However, police said that the incident is being investigated and efforts are underway to arrest the other two culprits.
If the accused ASI Lutfar Rahman's guilt is proven based on the investigation officer's report, departmental action will be taken against him and a case will be filed.
Earlier, at a press conference on Tuesday, District Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman Munshi said, "Departmental action is being taken against ASI Lutfar Rahman as per the higher authorities' instruction for snatching weapons while on duty. The matter is under process."
It is noted that at 6AM on Monday (March 9), ASI Lutfar Rahman of Shitalakshya police outpost was patrolling on a motorcycle wearing his uniform. Three miscreants on a motorcycle waylaid him in front of the Nagar Bhaban in the city's Nitaiganj area. When the miscreants tried to stab him with a sharp weapon, he defended himself. Then his motorcycle was damaged. At one stage, the miscreants snatched his official pistol along with bullets and fled the scene.
Immediately several teams of the district police and detective police conducted a raid and arrested a member of the robbery gang named Mishal. Though he gave information about the other two miscreant, chargesheet has not been filed against them.
ASI Lutfar Rahman filed a case against unknown accused at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on charges of banditry.
