2 killed in Rangpur truck collision

Two truck drivers were killed in a collision between a stone-laden truck and a urea fertiliser-laden BRTC truck in Rangpur’s Taraganj upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Idris Ali, 35, son of late Rahidul Islam, a resident of Jaluli village under Maheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah district and the identity of the BRTC truck driver has not yet been confirmed. Idris was the driver of the stone-laden truck.

According to locals, the incident occurred around 7:00 AM on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway near the Karubaj Bridge in the Hajipur area when a stone-laden truck traveling from Panchagarh to Rangpur collided with fertilizer-laden BRTC truck, causing both drivers to die on the spot.

Another individual, stone-laden truck’s helper, Ariful, 32, was seriously injured and initially taken to Taraganj Upazila Health Complex before being referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Confirming the incident, Taraganj Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said that the bodies of both drivers have been recovered, and efforts are underway to identify the BRTC truck driver.

He also mentioned that after the trucks were removed from the road, traffic returned to normal. Legal action regarding the incident is currently underway.
