KHULNA, Mar 13: Heart-rending scenes unfolded in front of the morgue of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) as Salam Morol repeatedly fainted while mourning the tragic loss of several members of his family in a road accident.
Salam Morol, a resident of Naksha Village in Koyra Upazila, had married off his daughter Marzia Akter Mitu to Sabbir, son of Abdur Razzak of Mongla, only the previous night.
In the devastating crash, Salam lost two daughters - Marzia Akter Mitu and Lamia - along with his mother Rashida Begum and mother-in-law Anowara Begum. The sudden loss of almost his entire family left him nearly inconsolable.
Witnesses said, Salam repeatedly lost consciousness while crying in front of the morgue. After regaining his senses, he appeared speechless and looked around helplessly, searching for his loved ones.
In brief moments of conversation amid the grief-stricken atmosphere, Salam recounted the sequence of events.
He said he had arranged the wedding of his daughter with much celebration around 11pm on Wednesday night.
"The whole night passed in joy and festivities. Almost everyone stayed awake celebrating the wedding," he said.
According to Salam, around 11 am on Thursday, the newlywed bride, along with his other daughter, his mother and his mother-in-law, left in a microbus for their destination.
"But what happened next? I have no one left now," he said in a broken voice.
Salam added that he received a phone call from KMCH in the afternoon informing him about the accident. He rushed to the hospital immediately.
"I knew nothing when they started the journey. When I came here, everything was over," he said, repeatedly crying out, "I have no one left… Allah, please take me too."
