3 members of same family killed in Patgram road accident

PATGRAM, LALMONIRHAT, Mar 17: Three members of a family, including a four-month-old infant, were killed in Patgram, Lalmonirhat, after their motorcycle was hit by a truck while returning home for the Eid holidays. Another child from the family was seriously injured and sent to Rangpur for advanced treatment.

The accident occurred on Tuesday around 7  am near Mirzarkot Model Mosque on the Burimari-Lalmonirhat highway in Patgram municipality. 

The deceased have been identified as Shariful Islam, 35, his wife Sumaiya Akter, 32, and their four-month-old son Abdullah Al Huzaifa. Shariful Islam, a resident of Hili, Hakimpur, Dinajpur, worked as an assistant manager at a private development organisation, Podokhep, in Patgram.

According to police and local sources, Shariful was travelling with his wife and two children on a motorcycle to their native village for Eid. When they reached Mirzarkot, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided with their motorcycle. Sumaiya died on the spot, while Shariful and his infant son succumbed to injuries en route to Patgram Upazila Health Complex. The other child, Shoaib Hossain, 10, is in critical condition and was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Bigkhata Highway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdur Razzak said, the motorcycle was carrying four people, three of whom died in the crash. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, and authorities are investigating.

Officer-in-Charge of Patgram Police Station Nazmul Haque confirmed the bodies have been kept at Patgram Upazila Health Complex. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being collected to identify the truck and apprehend the driver. Families of the deceased have been informed.
