A special committee of the 13th National Parliament convened on Tuesday to review 133 ordinances issued during the tenure of the interim government.

The meeting began after 11AM at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the meeting, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the special committee was formed in accordance with parliamentary rules, as ministry-related standing committees have not yet been constituted.

''We will discuss which ordinances can be adopted as they are, which require amendments and which need further changes.''

The minister added that some of the ordinances appear to be in conflict with the Constitution, while others reflect public expectations that emerged following the July mass uprising.

Officials said the review process is expected to play a key role in aligning interim legislative measures with constitutional provisions and current public sentiment.

Salahuddin Ahmed said the primary objective of the review is to ensure a strong legal framework consistent with the country's current political and social realities.

The Home Minister expressed hope that the government would complete the process swiftly upholding the spirit of the July mass uprising.

Earlier, Law Minister Asaduzzaman placed the 133 ordinances before the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on March 12, after which they were referred to the special committee.

The committee is headed by Zainul Abedin and includes members Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, Salahuddin Ahmed, Md. Nurul Islam, Asaduzzaman, Muhammad Osman Faruk, A M Mahbub Uddin, Abdul Bari, Muhammad Naushad Jamir, Farzana Sharmin and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mujibur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam Khan and G M M Nazrul Islam.
