PAIKGACHHA, KHULNA, Mar 25: Newly elected lawmaker from the Khulna-6 constituency, Alhaj Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, has said he will work for the development of Paikgachha and Koyra, uniting people across political lines on the basis of justice and fairness.
Speaking at an Eid reunion organised by the Paikgachha Upazila unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Al-Amin Trust auditorium on Monday afternoon, the MP said, he was elected by people from all walks of life. "The debt of their love and sacrifice can never be repaid. I will carry out my responsibilities by following the ideals of Hazrat Umar (RA) in governance," he said.
Azad noted that although his party had hoped to form the government, it was not possible. "However, if the government remains committed to honesty and public welfare, we will extend our cooperation. But any wrongdoing will not be accepted, and we will not support injustice," he added.
He said he has already held discussions with district and upazila administration officials, instructing them to maintain neutrality and ensure accountability in their work. "I hope the administration will act accordingly and ensure full public service delivery," he said.
The MP warned that strict action would be taken against terrorism, corruption, extortion, tender manipulation, drugs and gambling in the constituency, regardless of political affiliation. "No criminal will be spared," he added.
Highlighting development initiatives, Azad said steps are being taken to construct sustainable embankments in Koyra. Measures are also underway to increase bed capacity at Paikgachha and Koyra Upazila health complexes, while capacity at Kapilmuni will be expanded after completion of a new building.
He further said development projects have been taken up for roads, new buildings for educational institutions, and ensuring safe drinking water in coastal areas, including installation of water reservoirs.
The programme was chaired by upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Saidur Rahman and conducted by assistant secretary Maulana Abdul Khaleq. District Jamaat leaders and local professionals also spoke at the event.
Hundreds of party leaders and activists from different unions and municipalities of the upazila attended the programme.
