CHAR FASSON, BHOLA, June 11: A nutrition awareness campaign highlighting safe milk and dairy products was held at an orphanage in Char Fasson on Wednesday, marking World Milk Day under a government-supported programme.

The event was organised under the Special Programme Development (Agriculture) initiative of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and implemented by the Family Development Association (FDA).

As part of the programme, 200 orphaned children were served milk at the Char Fasson orphanage. A quiz competition on dairy nutrition was also arranged to raise awareness about the importance of safe milk consumption and balanced diets.

The campaign was held under the theme “Let’s celebrate the power of dairy products,” focusing on promoting nutrition awareness at the grassroots level and recognising the contribution of women in dairy production.

Officials said similar programmes were observed across the country to mark World Milk Day, which is celebrated every June to promote awareness of dairy nutrition and healthy eating habits.

Charfassion Upazila Livestock Officer Md Rajon Ali attended the programme as the chief guest, while FDA Senior Programme Coordinator Shankar Chandra Debnath presided over the event.

Speakers, including orphanage director Sirajul Islam and FDA Fisheries Officer Md Saidur Rahman, said many students often avoid drinking milk despite its nutritional value. They stressed the importance of encouraging consumption of dairy-based foods such as yoghurt, cottage cheese, sweets and other milk-based products.

They also underscored the need to build healthy eating habits among children from an early age.

The programme included discussions on the nutritional benefits of safe milk, food safety practices and dairy-based dietary habits. A quiz and essay competition were organised to increase engagement among participants.

At the end of the event, winners of the competitions were awarded prizes. All participating children were served traditional buttermilk, and cultural performances, including devotional songs, were also held.
