State Minister Tuku orders major upgrades at National Zoo

 
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku on Friday made a surprise visit to the Bangladesh National Zoo in the capital's Mirpur area calling for immediate improvements in facilities, management, and visitor services.

Arriving at around 11:00 am, Tuku purchased a ticket himself like an ordinary visitor before beginning his inspection, which lasted nearly two hours. During the visit, he examined animal enclosures, treatment facilities, medicine storage areas, and the animal nutrition section, assessing the quality and quantity of food provided.

The minister also spoke with officials and staff to review healthcare, food supply, and overall animal management, while interacting with visitors to gather feedback on their experiences and expectations.

A large crowd from Dhaka and nearby districts was present, creating a festive atmosphere with families and children filling exhibition areas. During the inspection, Tuku instructed authorities to recover approximately seven acres of encroached zoo land. 

He also ordered the expansion of public toilets, additional seating arrangements, repair of internal roads, maintenance of cleanliness, and an increase in the number of animals on display.

He emphasized that visible development work must begin within the current budget.
