A mobile court at Assasuni upazila of Satkhira district seized 800 litres of illegally stored petrol from a local shop on Tuesday and fined the owner Tk 10,000 under the law.

The drive was carried out at a shop owned by Marufa Khatun at Shiula Naktara Kalibari Bazar following a tip-off.

Authorities recovered the petrol, which had been stored in four drums behind the shop and was allegedly intended for sale at inflated prices.

The drive was led by Executive Magistrates Saiful Islam and Towhidul Hasan, along with police from the local station.

The shop owner fled the scene after learning about the raid.

The seized petrol was later sold to local motorcyclists at a rate of Tk 600 per 5 litres and the proceeds were deposited into the state treasury.

In addition, the shop owner was fined under the Petroleum Act, 2016.
