HABIGANJ, Apr 4: A strike called by petrol pump owners has brought life to a standstill across Sylhet Division, causing severe public sufferings since early Wednesday.

All petrol pumps and CNG filling stations have remained closed from midnight, triggering a fuel crisis that has crippled transport.

In Habiganj's Bahubal and other areas, public transport has been disrupted as vehicles ran out of fuel mid-journey, leaving passengers stranded. Commuters, transport workers, and even emergency service users have been hit hard.

Leaders of the Habiganj Petrol Pump Owners' Association said they enforced the strike protesting mobile court drives, hefty fines, and alleged administrative harassment.

They claimed recent raids imposed excessive penalties, threatening their businesses.

Association Member Secretary Helal Mahaldar said the strike would continue indefinitely until their demands are met.
