The bodies of two fishermen, who went missing after their boat capsized during a sudden storm in Arpangashia River, were recovered in Koyra upazila of Khulna district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Upen Mridha, 50 and Mukenda Mondal, 42. Both were residents of the local area.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the fishermen were casting nets in the river. A sudden storm struck the area, causing their boat to capsize. While one fisherman managed to swim to safety, Upen and Mukenda were swept away by the strong currents.

Later on Thursday afternoon, the bodies were found floating at different points of the river following a two-day intensive search operation conducted by divers from the Fire Service and Civil Defence alongside the Naval Police.

Upen Mridha’s body washed ashore near the riverbank, while Mukenda Mondal’s body was spotted at the confluence of the Arpangashia River.

Upon receiving the news, rescue teams from the fire service and naval divers rushed to the spot and launched a search mission that concluded today with the discovery of the bodies.

Angtiara Naval Police officer-in-charge (OC) Md Faruk Hossain confirmed the recovery and said that the bodies were retrieved with the assistance of local residents and subsequently handed over to their respective families.
