Khulna University (KU) has begun a three-day program to celebrate Chaitra Sankranti 1432 and Bengali New Year 1433, with an Alpana Festival held on the first day.
The festival took place on Sunday afternoon at Hadi Chattar on the university campus and was inaugurated at 4:30 PM by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim as the chief guest.
In his brief remarks, the Vice-Chancellor said the Alpana Festival is a new addition to this year’s New Year celebrations.
He noted that alpana art reflects inner thoughts and aesthetic expression and that such initiatives make the festive atmosphere more colorful and lively.
Students participated in the festival by creating vibrant traditional floor paintings with various colors and designs across the venue, transforming the area into a visually appealing space.
The traditional art form drew significant interest and enthusiasm from attendees.
Among those present were Professor Dr. Rumana Haque, Dean of School of Management and Business Administration and chair of New Year celebration committee; Professor Dr. Sheikh Sirajul Hakim, Acting Dean of School of Fine Arts; Acting Registrar Professor Dr. SM Mahbubur Rahman; along with teachers and students from different disciplines.
As part of the three-day program, traditional Bengali games will be held on Monday (April 13) from 2 PM to 4 PM at the central field to mark Chaitra Sankranti.
A cultural program will take place from 3 PM to 6 PM, while a kite festival will be held from 4 PM to 6 PM on the same day.
On April 14, Bengali New Year day, a fair will be inaugurated at 9 AM. A colorful procession will begin at 10 AM from the university central field.
Another cultural program will be held from 3 PM to 6 PM, along with various activities throughout the day at the fair.
