We celebrate it, but follow English calendar 

Every year we celebrate Pahela Baisakh, the first day of Bengali new year, but everything we do is governed by the English calendar. Right from educational programs to job market, trade, daily life, all kinds of date-fixing, merit works, or state system and state management everything is conducted according to the English calendar. As a result, considering the use of days, dates or calendars, Bengali calendars do not have a meaningful presence in our lives. But this does not mean that Bangla month has no importance, significance, effectiveness and usefulness in our daily life. 

Pahela Baisakh is not just a festival but it has a deep significance in the life of the Bengali nation. This day embodies our unity, culture and heritage. Pahela Baisakh fills our new year with hope and inspiration.  The  Baisakh or Bengali New Year is an integral part of Bengali culture. The day is celebrated by all irrespective of religion, caste, caste. The day is celebrated in a very festive atmosphere as the Bengali New Year by the Bengali community around the world, especially in West Bengal, Assam and Tripura. 

In the agrarian rural society of Bengal, the beginning of the festival centered on the new harvest, has gradually turned into the New Year festival. Centuries have passed, rulers have changed many times, but Baisakh has been an eternal festival in Bengal. Boishakh in the city brings an occasion of massive festivities, but rural life has a different flavor. Shopkeepers welcome their customers with sweets in the Halkhata ceremony. 

Meanwhile, due to the invasion of sky culture, the main life of our culture, folk culture is under threat today. We are not against exchanging culture with foreign countries, but we are in favor of doing it while maintaining our cultural heritage. A cultural blow is enough to cripple a nation. Our various social and family festivals are also heavily influenced by foreign cultures. Youngsters today are heavily attracted to foreign music. Everyone must work together today to protect their native culture. Foreign culture ideas should be removed from the mind and native culture should be practiced and everyone should be encouraged. All should be given importance in preserving the native heritage. 


New Year means rebirth. Let's remember the old tradition of Bengali or go back to the tradition. In the Bengali national song-poetry, in various folklore, in the cultural arena, the New Year's cultural tradition has been flowing since the distant past. During the reign of Emperor Akbar, the celebration of the New Year in Baisakh was introduced in agrarian Bengal, and it continues today in various evolutions. 

As the biggest non-sectarian festival of this country, the Bengali New Year has long been celebrated by people of all walks of life. Various folklore of Chaitra Sankranti and various arrangements of agricultural society during New Year are also significant. Baisakh is also very important in the literature and culture of Bengal. It is desirable that Pahela Boishakh should appear before us as a universal festival among the people of all strata of all socio-economic political infrastructure irrespective of party, creed and caste.
