Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General (DG) Md Ahsan Habib Palash has said that extensive security measures have been taken across the country to mark the Bengali New Year 1433.
While no specific threats have been identified, the RAB Special Commando Force has been kept on standby to dealing with any potential acts of sabotage, he added.
The RAB DG made the remarks on Monday while inspecting security arrangements at Ramna Batamul in the capital ahead of Pahela Baishakh celebrations, and while briefing on nationwide preparations.
He also said that to ensure a festive and secure environment, 15 RAB battalions will be deployed across the country. Members will remain actively on duty in their respective areas until all events conclude.
A total of 308 patrol teams, including 181 pickup patrol units and 127 motorcycle units, will be in operation. Plainclothes intelligence surveillance has also been intensified, he added.
Ahsan Habib Palash further said that special security measures have been implemented at key venues in Dhaka, including Shahbagh, TSC, Suhrawardy Udyan, Rabindra Sarobar, Hatirjheel, Manik Mia Avenue, Bangla Academy, and Ramna Batamul. Check-posts and observation posts have been set up, alongside strengthened patrol activities.
To prevent potential sabotage, bomb disposal units and dog squads are conducting sweeping operations and remain prepared for any emergency. Control rooms, foot patrols, CCTV monitoring, and sufficient reserve forces have also been arranged nationwide, he said.
The RAB Chief also noted that no concrete intelligence regarding sabotage has been found so far through intelligence and cyber monitoring. However, strict vigilance is being maintained to prevent the spread of rumors, incitement, or misinformation.
However, special measures have been taken to ensure women's safety and prevent eve-teasing and harassment at celebration venues, he added.
