Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman on Tuesday stated that the Farmers’ Card distribution programme is being implemented without any political bias, stressing that priority is being given to small and marginal farmers.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after distributing Farmers’ Cards at Abaipur village in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah.

The minister highlighted that the government is fulfilling commitments outlined in the BNP’s election manifesto and has already introduced several farmer-friendly initiatives.

“Agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 have been waived, and the distribution of Farmers’ Cards has now begun. Additionally, a nationwide canal excavation programme is underway to enhance agricultural production,” he said.

Responding to allegations by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami that opposition voices are being curtailed in Parliament, Asaduzzaman rejected the claims, asserting that opposition members are being allowed more speaking time than formally allocated.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman virtually attended the inauguration of the Farmers’ Card distribution programme, held at Kripalpur Government Primary School in Abaipur union.

Among those present at the event were Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Noman Hossain, Superintendent of Police Mahfuz Afzal, Zila Parishad Administrator MA Majid, district BNP General Secretary Zahiduzzaman Mona, and Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md Kamruzzaman.

In the pilot phase, a total of 1,679 farmers in the Kripalpur block of Abaipur union received Farmers’ Cards.
