Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker for Dhaka-5 Kamal Hossain has claimed he was unable to obtain fuel for his vehicle despite waiting in line until 2:00 AM, highlighting the ongoing fuel crisis during parliamentary session.

He made these remarks while speaking on Wednesday during a discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s speech in Jatiya Sangsad.

In a sarcastic remark, he told Parliament that while he could not find fuel outside, there seemed to be an “abundance of oil” inside the House, implying excessive flattery in parliamentary proceedings.

The MP also described the difficult conditions in his constituency, saying that even after decades, areas like Jatrabari remain neglected despite being close to the capital.

He alleged that many households suffer from irregular gas supply due to outdated infrastructure, forcing residents to cook meals late at night.

He further raised concerns about illegal leasing of roads, extortion, traffic congestion and the spread of drugs and crime, which he said are major obstacles to development in his area.

He also criticised political violence, claiming that individuals have lost their lives for speaking out against extortion.

Addressing the deputy Speaker, Kaiser Kamal, he called attention to irregularities in the education sector, alleging an imbalance in teacher appointments in some institutions.

The MP also spoke about constitutional reform, warning that failure to convene a reform council within the stipulated time could lead to the dissolution of Parliament.

He urged authorities to take necessary steps to address the issue.
