Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has said that the process for forming the 10th Wage Board for journalists will begin very soon.

He made the announcement on Sunday in Jatiya Sangsad while responding to a scripted question from opposition lawmaker Sheikh Monjurul Haque (Rahad) of Bagerhat-2.

The minister noted that the gazette notification for the 9th Newspaper Wage Board was issued on September 12, 2019.

In reply to another query from opposition MP Md. Nurul Islam of Chapainawabganj-3, the minister said the government is working to strengthen protection, capacity building and workplace safety for journalists.

He said various initiatives have already been taken in this regard, including the establishment of a Journalist Protection Support Cell, legal and technological assistance in cases of threats, attacks and digital harassment and special support for women journalists.

Other measures include digital security training, emergency welfare assistance, district-level protection arrangements and coordination with relevant agencies to ensure a safer working environment for media professionals.
