A Dhaka court has deferred the submission of the further investigation report in the Sharif Osman Hadi murder case for the 12th time, setting May 5 as the new date.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah passed the order on Sunday after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit the report.

Earlier, a Dhaka court had fixed April 19 for the report. Dissatisfied with the initial charge sheet filed by Detective Branch (DB) police against 17 accused on January 6, the complainant filed a petition, prompting the court to order a fresh probe by the CID.

Hadi, convener of Inqilab Mancha, was shot on December 12 in Bijoynagar while on a rickshaw during a campaign. He was first treated in Dhaka and later flown to Singapore, where he died on December 18.

The case was initially filed as an attempted murder on December 14 and later converted to a murder case after his death.

According to the DB investigation report, the killing was carried out due to political rivalry and as part of a planned effort to create fear ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election.
