Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader on Sunday raised concerns over the political stance of the National Citizens Party (NCP), alleging inconsistency in its approach and claiming that it may be seeking to consolidate electoral support at the expense of other parties.
Speaking in a media interaction, GM Quader said that sections of the public perceive the NCP as aligned with Bangladesh Jamaat e Islami.
Such perceptions, combined with what he described as a "double standard policy", may not be acceptable to voters, JP chief added.
Referring to recent political developments, he acknowledged that there had been limited communication with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following 5 August. He said, "We talked. There was an exchange of greetings."
But he clarified that there had been no discussion regarding her return to active politics or the future of Awami League politics, he added.
Commenting on the NCP's decision to allow former Chhatra League members to join the party, GM Quader said he had reservations about the party's criteria for inclusion. He argued that the NCP's position raises questions about consistency and adherence to uniform political standards.
He further alleged that the NCP might be attempting to draw support from the JP's voter base. "I have a feeling that they want to take our vote bank. They think that it will not be easy to take the Awami League vote bank. There is no question of BNP," he pointed out.
Now emphasising the need for parity in political conduct, he noted all parties should be subject to the same evaluative criteria. "If someone calls one party 'guilty' or 'criminal' and then includes them in the other party, then that is not acceptable," he said.
