MPs to get dedicated office rooms at upazila councils

State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam announced in parliament on Tuesday that members of Parliament (MP) will now have dedicated inspection rooms equipped with modern amenities at upazila parishad offices across the country.

Taking the floor before Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, the state minister said a government order has already been issued to all Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) on the matter, following consultation with the Local Government and Cooperatives Minister.

"Whether in new or existing upazila parishad buildings, a room will be prepared for members of parliament-- fitted with an attached bathroom and necessary furniture," he said. Since existing rules do not permit rooms to be formally allocated in the name of individual lawmakers, the rooms will officially be designated as "inspection rooms." MPs will be able to use these spaces to conduct official work and meet directly with constituents.

The state minister added that where a lawmaker's constituency spans more than one upazila, a dedicated room will be arranged in each upazila council falling within that constituency.

He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for issuing special directives to ensure the initiative is implemented and conveyed congratulations to all members of parliament on behalf of the ministry.

With the government order taking effect from Tuesday, he urged lawmakers to contact their respective UNOs without delay to have the rooms readied at the earliest opportunity.
