The government on Wednesday reviewed a long-term roadmap to expand the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to 47 aircraft by the 2034-35 fiscal year, aiming to modernise the national carrier and strengthen its operational capacity.

The review took place at a meeting on Boeing aircraft procurement held at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Participants discussed in detail the proposed expansion strategy, including the potential inclusion of Boeing aircraft, and examined initiatives undertaken during the previous government's tenure.

Chairing the meeting, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam stressed the need for an integrated action plan before adding new aircraft. She said decisions should be guided by route-wise revenue and expenditure analysis to ensure financial viability.

She noted that timely and realistic measures could help transform Biman into a more profitable and passenger-friendly airline.

State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat said the process for inducting Boeing aircraft should continue without delay. He emphasised maintaining timeliness in procurement and called for coordinated efforts to ensure new aircraft are incorporated into the fleet within the tenure of the present government, in line with the existing plan.
