Home ministry for coordinated action against drugs, crime

The first meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs of the 13th JS on Thursday called for coordinated and effective measures to curb drugs, gambling and crime and improve the country’s law and order situation.
The meeting was held at the JS Bhaban and chaired by committee Chairman Zainul Abedin, MP.
The introductory session was followed by discussions on drugs and gambling, which the committee identified as major problems facing the country. The meeting stressed the need to intensify public awareness campaigns and ensure coordinated action by relevant agencies to eradicate drugs.
The meeting was informed that the Home Ministry has already taken several measures to combat narcotics, including conducting mobile court operations and establishing tribunals and courts with relevant jurisdiction.
It was also informed that complete transparency has been maintained in police recruitment over the past six months. The process was conducted impartially, without political influence or partisan considerations.
The Home Ministry presented an overview of its activities through a detailed presentation.
The proposed budget of the Home Ministry and its subordinate agencies for the 2026-27 fiscal year was also placed before the committee. Sector-wise allocations, expenditure plans and detailed budgetary information for the agencies under the ministry were presented.
According to the meeting, the proposed allocation for the Home Ministry for FY2026-27 is Tk 31,099 crore. Of the amount, Tk 28,638 crore 79 lakh has been earmarked for the operating budget, while Tk 2,460 crore 21 lakh has been allocated for development expenditure.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Whips Rakibul Islam and Miah Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, and committee members Mir Shahe Alam, Md Kamruzzaman, Md Monowar Hossain, Shirin Sultana, Md Nurul Islam and Md Abdul Baten attended the meeting.
