A Dhaka court on Monday sent Associate Prof Sudip Chakraborty to jail in a case filed over the alleged abetment of a Dhaka University student's death.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain passed the order after the investigation officer, SI Kazi Iqbal Hossain of Badda Police Station, sought to keep the accused in custody. As no remand was requested, Chakraborty was not produced before the court.
Defence counsel sought bail, arguing that the accused is a respected tracher and has no involvement in the incident, while prosecutors opposed the plea.
According to the prosecution, preliminary evidence suggests Chakraborty's involvement, and his detention is necessary for a fair investigation and verification of his identity details. The court was also told that the accused had a video call with the victim on the night before the incident, and complaints indicates possible instigation.
