National Legal Aid Day observed in districts

With the slogan 'Controversy over Government Expenditure Ends, Bangladesh First', National Legal Aid Day-2026 was observed in all the districts of the country including Bandarban, Gopalganj, Kishoreganj, Madaripur, Narayanganj, Netrakona, Nilphamari, Pirojpur, Rajbari and Rangamati.

BANDARBAN: The District Legal Aid Committee on Tuesday morning organized a rally and a discussion to mark the Day.
The event was inaugurated in the morning by releasing balloons, opened by the Chairman of the District Legal Aid Committee and District and Sessions Judge Md. Jamiul Haidar. The rally then started from the District and Sessions Judge court premises and ended at the same venue.
Afterwards, a discussion meeting was held at the District and Sessions Judge court building. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the District Legal Aid Committee and District and Sessions Judge Md. Jamiul Haidar.

Present on the occasion, among others, were Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Saniul Ferdous, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Abdur Rahman. 

Later, Umashing Marma, a panel lawyer of the Bandarban District Legal Aid Committee, was nominated as the best panel lawyer for providing legal services tirelessly to financially insolvent and underprivileged justice seekers in the region. The honourarium was then presented to the best panel lawyer by District and Sessions Judge Md. Jamiul Haidar.

GOPALGANJ: The Day was inaugurated in the morning by releasing balloons on the District and Sessions Judge court premises. Afterwards, a colourful rally set off from there, paraded through the city's main roads, and ended at the District Shilpakala Academy. A discussion meeting was then held there highlighting the significance of the Day.

Chaired by District and Sessions Judge Md. Shamsul Haque, the meeting was addressed by the Chief Guest, DC  Md. Arif-Uz-Zaman. Special guests present included SP Md. Habibullah, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md. Arafat Hossain, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md. Ashikujjaman, Legal Aid Officer Shafiqul Islam, Public Prosecutor Advocate Abul Khayer, and PP Advocate Tawfiqul Islam Tawfiq.

Present at the event were lawyers, judges, members of the police administration, journalists, people from various professions, and university students. The District Legal Aid Committee organised the programme to mark the Day.

KISHOREGANJ: A day-long programme was held to raise public awareness of government legal aid services. 

The Kishoreganj District Legal Aid Committee organized various events on the occasion. 

A discussion meeting took place at the District and Sessions Judge Court auditorium on Tuesday morning, ignoring the hostile weather, under the theme 'Controversy over Government Expenditure, Bangladesh First'. District Legal Aid Officer (Civil Judge) Swagat Samyo delivered the welcome speech at the meeting, which was chaired by District Legal Aid Committee Chairman and Acting District and Sessions Judge Supriya Rahman.

CS Dr Abhijit Sharma, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Ershadul Ahmed, Sadar Circle ASP Md. Shariful Haque, and District Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Md. Aminul Islam Ratan also spoke.

At the meeting, the two best lawyers were awarded a crest and a cash cheque based on an evaluation of their performance among the Legal Aid Panel lawyers. 

MADARIPUR: On the occasion, a rally was brought out from District Judge Court Square from morning 9:30 am that paraded the main roads and ended in the courtyard.

A discussion meeting was held with Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Rokanuzzaman in the chair.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Legal Aid Member Secretary Civil Judge Md. Mujahidul Islam, Woman and Child Torture Suppression Court Judge Md. Sharif Hossain Haider, Chief Judicial Magistrate Elias Rahman, Lawyer Association Vice-President Jalalur Rahman Mullah, Additional District Magistrate Nigger Sultana, SP Md. Habibur Rahman, Government Prosecutor Golzar Hossain Chishti, Public Prosecutor Md. Emirates Hossain, and Special PP Sharif Md. Saiful Kabir.
The function was conducted by Court Senior Civil Judge Maria Sultana.

NARAYANGANJ: To mark the Day, a colourful rally was brought out from the premises of Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Court. The rally paraded through the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road and ended back on the court premises.
After the rally, stalls providing various legal services were inaugurated on the court premises. A discussion meeting was then held, attended by members of the judiciary, the administration, and leaders of the legal profession. The inauguration of the stalls and the discussion meeting were chaired by Abu Shamim Azad, Senior District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the Legal Aid Provision Committee.

Also present on the occasion were Narayanganj Chief Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin, DC Md. Rayhan Kabir, SP Md. Mizanur Rahman Munshi, CS Dr Mushior Rahman, District PP Advocate Abul Kalam Azad Zakir, Women and Children Court PP Advocate Khorshed Alam Molla, President of the District Bar Association Advocate Humayun Kabir, and General Secretary Advocate Anwar Pradhan, along with others.

Senior District and Sessions Judge Abu Shamim Azad said, in his speech, that the state is ready with legal aid for those who cannot access legal assistance due to lack of money. Legal aid is not a favour to anyone, but rather availing legal recourse is their constitutional right.

DC Rayhan Kabir said that all citizens are equal in the eyes of the law, but to make all citizens equal, at least the right to reach the doors of the court must be ensured.

NETRAKONA: On the occasion, the Netrakona District Legal Aid Committee organized a colourful rally and a discussion meeting.  
The rally started from the District Judge court premises and ended at the Public Hall. Afterwards, a discussion meeting was held at the Public Hall under the chairmanship of District and Sessions Judge Mariam Mun Munjuri.

Speakers at the meeting included Senior District and Sessions Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Dr A K M Emdadul Haque, Chief Judicial Magistrate S M Rajibul Hasan, District Council Administrator Advocate Nuruzzaman Nur, Municipal Administrator Ariful Islam Sardar, GP Advocate Mahfuzul Haque, PP Advocate Abul Hashem, District Legal Aid Officer Saimun Al Islam, President of the District Bar Association Advocate Zia Uddin Ahmed Zia, and Secretary Advocate Abdur Razzaq, among others.

NILPHAMARI: The District Legal Aid Office organized a colourful rally that set off from the District Court premises, paraded through the town's main roads, and converged into a discussion meeting at the District Shilpakala Academy. 
The meeting was chaired by the Acting District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Aid Committee, Barrister Mahmudul Haque.

On the occasion, two best panel lawyers, Md. Anwar Hossain and Laila Anjuman Ara Iti, were honoured. Also present were ASP Mohsin Ali, Additional District Magistrate Md. Naim Hasan Khan, and Medical Officer Dr Atiur Rahman from the CS office, among many others.

District Legal Aid Officer Robiul Islam reported that in the current year 2025, a total of 533 ADR applications were filed, of which 343 were direct and 190 were received from the court. During this time, legal advice was given to 405 people, including 181 women and 224 men.

PIROJPUR:  To mark the Day, the district legal aid committee brought out a rally on Tuesday morning from the circuit house premises which, after parading the main roads, ended on the chief judicial magistrate court premises in the town. 

Later, a discussion meeting was organized. Chairman of the district legal committee and Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Mozibur Rahman presided over the meeting, while Women and Children Violence Prevention Special Judge Mehedy Al Masud, Chief Judicial Magistrate Iftekhar Ahmed, District Magistrate and DC Abu Sayed, SP Mohammad Manjur Ahmed Sidique, CS Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman, Public Prosecutor Advocate Abul Kalam Akon, President of the District Lawyers Association Advocate M Shah Alam, Government Pleader Sayed Sabbir Ahmed, General Secretary of the District Lawyers Association AKM Awal, Special Public Prosecutor (Women and Children) Advocate Shahjahan Sadar, and beneficiary Sadmin Akter spoke on the occasion.


RAJBARI: In the morning, a discussion meeting was organized by the Rajbari District Legal Aid Committee. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Rajbari District Legal Aid Committee and Rajbari District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Anisur Rahman.

Among others who spoke at the event were Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal (District Judge) Md. Tahidul Islam, Chief Judicial Magistrate Nazmul Hossain, CS Dr S M Masud, SP Mohammad Manjur Morshed, District Legal Aid OC Md. Hasan Al Azad, President of the District Bar Association Advocate Kazi Abdul Bari, General Secretary Advocate Md. Abdur Razzak, Legal Aid lawyer Advocate Shahidul Islam, former president of the District Bar Association Khandaker Habibur Rahman Bachchu, and District Legal Aid panel lawyers Pila Rani Sen and Nizamuddin Haidar.

Chairman of the Rajbari District Legal Aid Committee and District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Anisur Rahman urged lawyers to ensure legal assistance for helpless people through legal aid. 

CS Dr S M Masud said that if anyone faces health-related problems, they too can receive free legal assistance through legal aid. The Superintendent of Police said that police resolve disputes and thanked the Legal Aid Committee for settling disputes through legal aid as an alternative. Online legal aid is available at the number 16699, allowing people to receive assistance from home.

RANGAMATI: On Tuesday morning, a colourful rally, discussion meeting, legal aid fair, and healthcare programme were organised at the District and Sessions Judge court premises. The day was inaugurated at 8 am by releasing balloons on the court premises. Afterwards, a colourful rally highlighting the significance of the day was brought out. The rally paraded through Happy More and Bonrupa, the city's main roads, and ended back at the court premises, followed by a discussion meeting.

Chaired by the Senior District and Sessions Judge of Rangamati and Chairman of the District Legal Aid Committee, Md. Ahsan Tarek, the meeting was addressed by Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Kajal Talukdar, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Rangamati (District and Sessions Judge) Mohammad Mahabubur Rahman, SP Muhammad Abdur Rakib, Additional District Magistrate Nishat Sharmin, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rangamati Syed Tofazzal Hasan Hiru, and President of the District Bar Association Mihir Biran Chakma, among other guests. The welcome speech was delivered by the Chief Legal Aid Officer of Rangamati (Joint District and Sessions Judge) ASM Emran.
