Reserved seat MPs to take oath today

The oath-taking ceremony for members of parliament elected to the reserved women's seats in the 13th National Parliament will be held today.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, the ceremony will take place at 9:00 pm in the oath-taking room on the ground floor of the National Parliament Building.

A total of 36 candidates have been nominated from the BNP, 13 from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance, and one from an independent group.

The BNP alliance nominees include Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akhtar Ranu, Newaz Halima Arli, Mosa Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Sakila Farzana, Helen Zerin Khan, Nilofar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Jiba Amina Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Mosa Sabira Sultana, Sansila Zebrin, Sanjida Islam Tuli, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Haque, Anna Minz, Suborna Sikder (Thakur), Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, Mosammat Shammi Akhtar, Ferdousi Ahmed, Bitika Binte Hossain, Mosa Suraiya Zerin, Mansura Akhtar, Zaharat Adib Chowdhury, Momtaz Alo, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Mosa Sanjida Yasmin, Nadia Pathan Papon, Shawkat Ara Akhter, Madhavi Marma, Selina Sultana and Rezeka Sultana.

From Jamaat, the nominated candidates are Nurunnisa Siddika, Marzia Begum, Advocate Sabikun Nahar Munni, Nazmunnahar Nilu and Engineer Mardia Momtaz.

In terms of regional representation, Marina Sultana from Chittagong, Mahfuza Khanam from Sylhet and Sajeda Samad from Bogra are also included. Rokeya Begum, mother of July martyr Zarif Abdullah, is also on Jamaat's nomination list.

From Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, the nominated candidates are NCP leader Dr Mahmuda Mitu, JAGPA President Tasmia Pradhan and Engineer Mahbuba Karim. Nusrat Tabassum has been nominated from the NCP.
