KHULNA, May 6: Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) arrested two suspected criminals for attempt to loot valuables from tourists at a resort in the Sundarban.

The arrested are Rajon Sardar, 25, and Ratan Sardar, 14, both residents of Dakop Upazila in Khulna District.

BCG Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said, a group of miscreants broke open the window grills of Sundari Eco Resort near Dhangmari Canal under Dakop Upazila on Monday with the intention of looting valuables from tourists. Later, they fled after being chased by the resort authorities, he added.

Following the incident, the resort authorities informed the BCG, prompting a drive by BCG Base Mongla later in the day. Based on CCTV footage analysis and detective surveillance, BCG personnel raided the Dhangmari Canal area at 5 pm and arrested the two.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their involvement in theft and snatching activities over a long period, the BCG official said. The arrested were handed over to Dakop Police Station for further legal action.
