7 passport brokers jailed in N’ganj

A mobile court has sentenced seven brokers to varying jail terms following an anti-brokerage drive at the Regional Passport Office at Fatullah area of  Narayanganj on Thursday. 

The drive was led by Md. Tarif Altaf Towheed, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the District Administration.

The convicted individuals have been identified as Billal, 31, Aslam, 55, Saifful Islam, 31, Md. Ziaur Rahman, 48, Md. Yusuf Hossain, 34, Md. Moniruzzaman, 55 and Tanveer Mahtab, 33.

Magistrate Md. Tarif Altaf Towheed confirmed the sentencing, stating that four of the detainees were awarded with 10-day prison sentences, while the remaining three received 7 day.Additionally, each individual was fined 200 BDT.

The drive was carried out with the assistance of RAB-11, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Al Masud Khan, alongside members of the district police. 

Authorities emphasized that such drives will continue to ensure hassle-free services for passport applicants.
