Based on a tip-off by Dhama Ilias, accused in the Maksudul Haque Chowdhury murder case of Pahartoli police station in Chittagong, five people including top terrorist Mobarak Hossain alias David Emon have been detained.

Chittagong District Police Superintendent (SP) Md. Masud Alam gave this information at a press conference organized at the District Police Superintendent's office on Thursday.

Chittagong District Police Superintendent (SP) Md. Masud Alam said that the investigation into the much-discussed Maksudul Haque Chowdhury murder case that took place in the Pahartali area on June 13 identified the perpetrators through analysis of CCTV footage, technical information and intelligence information.

Later, on July 22, the accused Mithu alias Dhama Ilias, who was included in the case report, was arrested and later interrogated on a two-day remand with the permission of the court.

During the interrogation, Dhama Ilias gave important information about the terrorist network, weapons stockpile and associates. The investigation also revealed that he is a close associate of the notorious terrorist Raihan and there are 21 cases against him in various police stations, including murder, weapons and extortion.

SP Masud Alam said that based on the information received in the remand, a drive was conducted in the Jhumjhumpur area of Kotwali Police Station in Jessore district on July 29 with the help of Jessore District Police and Mobarak Hossain Emon alias David Emon, 25, Al Islam Alif alias Tamal, 25, Md. Shamim, 28, and Md. Safayet Hossain, 24, were arrested.

He said that the initial investigation revealed that David Emon have been conducting terrorist activities in various areas including Chittagong Metropolitan City, Fatikchhari and Rangunia for a long time.There are 13 cases against him in various police stations of CMP and Chittagong district, including murder, arms and extortion.

In addition, information about his involvement in multiple murders committed in Chittagong Metropolitan City, Raozan and Rangunia has also come to light during the investigation.

The Superintendent of Police said that after receiving information about the location of the weapons during the interrogation of the arrested persons, a raid was conducted on an abandoned house in Pytral Tilapara of Manikpur village in Kanchannagar union of Fatikchhari upazila on Thursday morning. During this, a foreign-made pistol, two domestic LGs and other domestic weapons were recovered. The process of filing a separate case under the Arms Act is underway in this incident.

He further said that the operation to identify and arrest other members of the terrorist gang is continuing based on the information provided by the arrested persons. At the same time, an investigation is underway to uncover the source of the recovered weapons, their financing and the extensive network of the gang.

SP Masud Alam said that the Chittagong District Police is working on a zero tolerance policy against terrorism, illegal weapons and organized crime. Intelligence-based operations will be further strengthened in the future to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
