14-year-old found dead in Khulna residential area lake

Police have recovered a floating body of a boy from a lake in the Mayur Residential Area under Harintana Police Station in Khulna.

Deceased was identified as Shoaeb, 14, son of Hasib Miah, a resident of Boyra Cross Road under Sonadanga Police Station. He was a local madrasa student. 

The body was retrieved around 9:00AM on Thursday, July 30.

According to police, Shoaeb often left home without telling anyone. He left home in a similar manner on Wednesday afternoon. 

When he did not return at night, family members searched for him in various places. On Thursday morning, the news of a body found in the lake reached the family, his parents reached the spot and identified him. 

Harintana Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahangir Miah further said, Shoaeb did not know how to swim. It is suspected that he slipped and fell into the water while trying to swim. He then drowned and died on the spot. An injury mark was found on his head.

Police said the body will be handed over to the family after completing the necessary legal procedures.
