
RAMGATI, LAXMIPUR, May 7: Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and Laxmipur-4 (Ramgati-Kamalnagar) Constituency MP, Alhaj ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan, inaugurated the 1.2-kilometre canal re-excavation on Thursday morning.
To mark the official inauguration of the 1.2-kilometre canal re-excavation project from in front of Alexander Contractor's house to Alexander Centre Canal Fish Ghat in Ramgati Upazila of the district, a prayer ceremony was held. The project is being implemented under the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nilufa Yasmin Nipa chaired the inaugural function. Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Ruhul Amin, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Mojibur Rahman, Upazila BNP President Dr Jamal Uddin, General Secretary (GS) Md Siraj Uddin, Municipal BNP GS Syed Murtaza Al Amin, and Ramgati Police Station OC (Investigation) Mahbubur Rahman were present at the ceremony.
Speaking as the chief guest, Ashraf Uddin Nijan, MP, said that the re-excavation of the canal will improve the drainage system of the area and increase agricultural production.
Later, he distributed cheque leaves and dry food among the families affected by fire/natural disasters, distressed and helpless under the humanitarian assistance programme in the Upazila Parishad conference room.
