4 killed in road mishaps in three districts

Four people were killed, and one was injured in separate road accidents in Sharsha Upazila of Jashore District and Gopalganj and Naogaon districts in two days.

SHARSHA, JASHORE: A pickup van helper was killed after the vehicle crashed into a roadside mahogany tree in Sharsha Upazila of the district early Tuesday. 

Arif Hossain, 30, died after the crash at Khajura on the Navaron-Satkhira highway, in front of a mosque, around 6:30 am.

The van was carrying chicks from Satkhira to Jashore when the driver lost control and slammed into the tree. Arif was critically injured and taken by locals to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Police seized the wrecked vehicle, said Anisur Rahman, sub-inspector at the Navaron Highway Police Outpost. Arif was from Nawapara Village in Sherpur Upazila of Bogura District.

GOPALGANJ: Two people were killed after being run over by a bus in the district on Monday.
The deceased were Solaiman Molla, 70, and his wife, Shahida Begum, 60. They were from Deola Village in Alfadanga Upazila of Faridpur District.

The crash occurred around noon near the Majhigati bus stand in Kashiani Upazila on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station (PS) Md Mahfuzur Rahman and Bhanga Highway PS Sergeant Md Hasan confirmed the incident. 

They said the couple had arrived at the bus stand from Dhaka on a bus and were crossing the highway when another bus struck them and fled. The couple died on the spot. Police said the bodies will be handed over to their relatives after legal procedures are completed.

NAOGAON: A van driver was killed and a passenger seriously injured on Monday morning when an ambulance struck their vehicle in Mohadevpur Upazila of the district.

Police said Niren Chandra Barman alias Hiren, 45, was driving the van with passenger Paresh Chandra Barman, 58, on the Naogaon-Nazipur regional road around 6:30 am when an unidentified ambulance travelling from Nazipur rear-ended the van near the Madina filling station in Enayetpur Village.
