JCD's Nasir alleges ‘covert’ Chhatri Sangstha role behind Eden College unrest

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) General Secretary Nasir Uddin on Sunday alleged that “covert” activists of Islami Chhatri Sangstha were behind the late-night unrest at Eden Mohila College, claiming they orchestrated a “planned mob” to target JCD leaders and push for an end to student politics on campus.

Nasir made the allegations in a post published on his verified Facebook page around 1:15 AM, hours after a group of students staged demonstrations at the college demanding a complete ban on student politics.

The protest began around 11:00 PM on Saturday when demonstrators reportedly broke the locks of the college’s main gate and marched through the campus chanting slogans against political activities within the institution.

In his statement, Nasir Uddin said participating in student politics and expressing political views are fundamental democratic rights of students.

He alleged that certain groups have recently been creating “mobs” at educational institutions across the country to obstruct political activities on campuses.

The JCD leader further claimed that similar incidents had occurred at other institutions, alleging that activists linked to Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir had previously taken part in movements opposing student politics before later emerging as leaders within the organisation.

Referring to a recent incident at Government Titumir College, Nasir alleged that a late-night mob attacked the college gate and harassed female JCD leaders.

He claimed one of the individuals involved was later identified as a secretary of the college unit of Shibir.

Regarding the situation at Eden College, he alleged that covert activists of Chhatri Sangstha had similarly incited protests to harass female leaders of JCD and activists from other political groups.
He also claimed that some female students were being forced out of residential halls.

Nasir warned that JCD would resist what he described as “mob terrorism” if harassment against its female leaders continued.

He also urged the college administration to protect students’ political rights and safety and not to yield to what he termed “conspiracies or deception.”
