The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court  has upheld the bail of former independent MP Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman in a case filed over the anti-discrimination student movement in Mirpur.

At the same time, the court directed the High Court to dispose of the pending rule on the matter expeditiously.

A bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam issued the order on Monday. Barrister Suman was represented in court by lawyer M. Liton Ahmed.

Suman was arrested from the Mirpur-6 area of Dhaka around 1:30AM on October 21, 2024. Shortly before his arrest, he posted on his verified Facebook account stating that he was going with the police and would face the court, requesting prayers.

Several cases have been filed against Barrister Sumon.
