DINAJPUR, May 12: Authorities have relieved a exam centre secretary and a tag officer of their duties after an SSC Physics examination was conducted with the wrong set code at a centre in Dinajpur.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning at the Iqbal High School examination centre in Dinajpur town. Although the Dinajpur Education Board had assigned "Set-1" question papers for the examination, candidates at the centre reportedly sat for the test using "Set-3" question papers by mistake.

According to sources, the board follows a lottery system to determine the set code for examinations. At 9 am, Education Board Chairman Professor Touhidul Islam announced that the Physics examination would be held using the "Set-1" question paper. The designated tag officers then distributed the assigned sets to different centres.

However, officials at the Iqbal High School centre allegedly failed to verify the set code properly and conducted the examination with the wrong question paper set. The matter came to light after the exam ended, when students compared their questions with those of candidates from other centres.

The incident created anxiety among students and guardians. Guardian Shamsul Huda said they became worried after learning that only one centre used a different set code. Examinee Shahriar Nafis said students realised the mistake after discussing the questions with friends later in the day.

Professor Borhan Uddin, Controller of Examinations of the Dinajpur Education Board, said an emergency meeting was held after the incident. He assured that the answer scripts would be evaluated according to the question paper used at the centre and that students would not face any negative impact on their results.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) SM Habibul Hasan said centre secretary Selima Sultana and tag officer Anwarul Islam were immediately relieved of their duties for negligence. He added that further administrative action would be recommended to the ministry.
