Bangladesh Police Headquarters has withdrawn Moulvibazar’s newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP), Md. Riazul Islam, only seven days after he assumed office, according to an official order issued on Friday.

The withdrawal order, signed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir on May 15, instructed Riazul Islam to hand over his responsibilities to a senior district police official and report to Police Headquarters by May 16.

The order, however, did not specify any reason behind the sudden withdrawal.

The move comes amid recent allegations that Riazul Islam secured his posting as Moulvibazar SP through a Tk 25 million deal, claims that sparked widespread criticism on social media.

Earlier, Police Headquarters also withdrew two other recently appointed district police chiefs, Mohammad Mahbub Alam Khan, SP of Feni and Md. Mizanur Rahman, SP of Panchagarh.
