Former Health and Family Welfare State Minister, ex-BNP central committee treasurer, and Munshiganj District BNP convener Mizanur Rahman Sinha has died while undergoing treatment in Singapore. He was 81.
He passed away at a hospital in Singapore early Friday at around 2AM, his daughter Tasnim Sinha confirmed through social media.
Sinha, also the managing director of ACME Laboratories Limited, had recently received BNP nomination for the Munshiganj-2 (Lohajang-Tongibari) constituency ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections. However, after falling ill, the party later replaced him with BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdul Salam Azad as the candidate for the seat.
''Sinha had long been undergoing treatment there. Efforts are underway to bring his body back to Bangladesh. Details will be announced later,'' Abdul Salam Azad said.
Sinha’s daughter and Deputy Managing Director of Acme Tasnim Sinha also confirmed her father’s death in a Facebook post.
Born on August 18, 1943, in Dohuri village of Kolma Union under Lohajang upazila in Munshiganj, Sinha completed his early education in Kolkata before studying at Government Tolaram College in Narayanganj and later earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Dhaka.
He began his professional career at Habib Bank in 1964 and later joined the family-owned ACI Group in 1975 following his father’s death. From 1983, he served as Managing Director of the group.
He was elected Member of Parliament twice from Munshiganj-2 constituency, winning the 1996 and 2001 general elections as a BNP candidate.
