Over 600 unhygienic water jars destroyed in Motijheel

Over 600 water jars were destroyed in Arambagh, Motijheel, on Monday for allegedly supplying water in unhygienic containers and marketing it without Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) certification.

The jars were destroyed during a special surveillance drive conducted by BSTI on September 14.

The inspection found that two establishments were supplying water in dirty containers without following health and hygiene standards. They were also marketing substandard water without the required BSTI certification.

BSTI Director General (Secretary) Kazi Imdadul Haque said the institution regularly conducts market inspections and surveillance operations to ensure product quality and protect consumer interests.

He said BSTI would continue taking legal action against adulterated and substandard products and intensify surveillance wherever such products are found.

He advised consumers to check the BSTI mark, licence number, production and expiry dates, ingredients and other relevant information before purchasing products.
