A Dhaka court on Monday showed former army officer and ex-lawmaker Masud Uddin Chowdhury arrested in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over the alleged embezzlement of Tk 1.19 billion in worker recruitment to Malaysia.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez passed the order following an application by ACC investigation officer Md Abul Kalam Azad.

According to the ACC, Masud and others allegedly abused their authority to become recruiting agents for sending workers to Malaysia and collected excess money from workers beyond the government-fixed migration cost of Tk 78,990.

The anti-graft body alleged that the accused illegally collected around Tk 1.19 billion and later laundered the money through concealment and transfer.
