JCD files counter-case against 60 NCP activists in Jhenaidah

A case has been filed against 22 named and 50 to 60 unidentified leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP), including its central joint member secretary Tareq Reza, in Jhenaidah.

Enamul Kabir, former vice-president and current member of Jhenaidah Chhatra Dal, filed the case with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on Saturday afternoon. 

The counter-case comes less than 24 hours after NCP leaders filed a lawsuit against Chhatra Dal activists on Friday night.

The legal battle stems from an incident on Friday afternoon, when an altercation broke out after Friday prayers outside the Old Collectorate Jame Mosque in the district town. During the chaos, eggs were hurled at NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, and several people were reportedly injured in a subsequent scuffle. 

Following the clash, NCP leaders staged a sit-in at the police station from afternoon until 9:00 PM. After a case was officially filed against Chhatra Dal activists, Patwari and his associates left Jhenaidah under police escort late Friday night.

Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Asaduzzaman confirmed the development, stating that the complaint lodged by Enamul Kabir has been recorded as a regular case.

Police are conducting drives to apprehend the accused as quickly as possible, the OC added.
