Woman hacked to death in Jhenaidah

A housewife was allegedly hacked to death by her husband following a family dispute in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Sunday.

The victim, Sagarika Akter Bulbuli, was from Karimpur village, while her husband, Shimul Hossain, is a resident of Goalpara village in the same upazila.

According to the victim’s father, Intaj Ali Biswas, Shimul had been mentally and physically abusing his wife for several days and was pressuring her to bring money from her parental home. Following an earlier assault, Bulbuli had taken shelter at her father’s house. However, her husband brought her back home three days ago.

Family members alleged that Shimul attacked Bulbuli with a sharp weapon late Saturday night, leaving her critically injured. She was later taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.

The accused husband fled the area after the incident and remains at large.

Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Asaduzzaman said police visited the scene after receiving information about the incident and that efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
